  • Position Overview

    This position is responsible for the development of immunoassay kits and reagents serving the life sciences, and ensuring product quality based on thorough science. Integral to the kit product development process, the Senior Research & Development Scientist will be involved in all phases of kit product release, including the choice of critical raw materials, selection of release criteria, and the validation, testing, and optimizing of kit components. As part of the R&D team, this position will share matrixed responsibilities with team members to meet kit development goals. The Senior Research & Development Scientist also provides technical leadership, leads projects teams, and assists with training new employees.


    1. Develop and validate immunoassay kits, to include experimental design, assessing product manufacturability, optimizing product stability, and ensuring adequate supply of critical raw materials.
    2. Evaluate new technology, find applications within product focus areas, and suggest product improvement and new product ideas.
    3. Collaborate with team members concerning product development, quality, and resource allocation.
    4. Test raw materials, in-process reagents, and finished products; analyze and monitor product stabilities.
    5. Prepare all kit reagents for development processes.
    6. Build efficiencies into work processes to streamline new product development and ensure smooth transition from development into production.
    7. Help produce all necessary documentation to take kits from development to manufacturing, including product specification sheets and kit inserts.
    8. Lead project teams for assigned products, including allocating resources, troubleshooting, and managing to deadlines.
    9. Assist the Group Leader with technical training for new employees.
    10. Assist Technical Support, including responding to technical support inquiries on a daily basis, as needed.
    11. Maintain complete, neat, and accurate electronic lab notebooks and other records.
    12. Maintain work area, equipment, and supplies.
    13. Participate in external scientific meetings and collaborate with academic and industrial scientists, as applicable.
    14. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.



    Education:  Ph.D. in a scientific field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Experience: 5+ years of related scientific experience, including immunoassay (ELISA) development/optimization, protein analytical techniques, and a cell biology and protein chemistry background.


    Skills:  Proven track record of technology development. Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong  documentation skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiplle priorities, meet deadlines, and be flexible in responding to changing demands. Must be innovative. Proven ability to work in a team environment and lead project teams. Computer proficiency required.


    Travel:  25% travel to Michigan required
